Balan's returns to Lincoln Road on September 17

September starts with Balan's returning to Lincoln Road, Mac's Club Deuce turning 100, and a familiar South Beach restaurant closing after 11 years.
Balan's reopens at 1022 Lincoln Road on September 17, returning to the Miami Beach address where its U.S. run began.
Brunch will be served daily until 4 PM, followed by happy hour from 3 to 6 PM. An international dinner menu is also planned.
The family opened its first U.S. Balan's on Lincoln Road in 1997 and stayed for more than two decades. In 2021, the owners replaced it with Issabella's at the same address. Issabella's served its final meal on August 30, clearing the way for the original name to return.
Sugar Factory closes its final Miami location
Sugar Factory American Brasserie has closed at 507 Española Way, ending an 11-year Miami Beach run. It was the brand's final Miami location.
The celebrity-focused restaurant spent more than a decade in the South Beach dining mix. Its closing leaves a prominent Española Way restaurant space vacant. What comes next for the address has not been announced.
One owner now controls the Casablanca condos
Ownership at the Casablanca condo-hotel, 6345 Collins Avenue, has shifted. Activate Hospitality bought developer Michael Stern's interest in a group of units and is pursuing a broader buyout.
An Activate affiliate paid $2.8 million for 33 commercial units, including restaurant space. Related LLCs now control nearly 150 of roughly 350 units. Another affiliate paid $3 million for synagogue space.
Condo board president Alex Steuben said the buyout remains in progress; no combined price was disclosed. The 10-story oceanfront building dates to 1948, and many units have operated as short-term rentals.
Bass Babies returns to the museum Saturday

The Bass holds Bass Babies on Saturday, September 5, from 11 AM to noon at 2100 Collins Avenue. The weekly program is designed for toddlers and their caregivers.
Teaching artist Paloma Dueñas leads hands-on activities built around color, shape, patterns, numbers, letters, art and music. The sessions are meant to encourage sensory awareness, creativity, pre-literacy skills and bonding between children and caregivers. The practice also supports problem solving and decision-making while giving early learners a creative outlet.

The Grammy-winning bassist and singer blends jazz, funk, R&B, hip-hop and psychedelic soul. His collaborators include Tame Impala, Flying Lotus, Gorillaz, Silk Sonic, Childish Gambino and H.E.R.

Mac's Club Deuce turns 100 with a block party
Mac's Club Deuce, the cash-only dive that calls itself Miami Beach's oldest bar, marks 100 years with a free block party on Saturday, September 5. The celebration runs from 4 to 11:30 PM on 14th Street at Washington Avenue, outside the bar at 222 14th Street.
The outside lineup includes Kill the Robot, ¡Fuákata!, Holly Hunt, Mama Fuma and Lady Boy, with resident DJ JessicaWho. Another DJ set follows inside after the street party. The Deuce will sell centennial merchandise and hand out sponsor giveaways. A raffle benefits Heart Heroes and the Florida Chapter of the Human Trafficking Foundation.
