Most of the Miami Beach commission wants Basabe out

Plus three days of Immersive Worlds at The Bass and Friday morning Tai Chi at the Botanical Garden.

Lead story

Five of the seven Miami Beach commission members say Miami Beach Rep. Fabián Basabe should resign, and one member described that conclusion as a no-brainer. The calls follow accusations from a pair of former employees who said Basabe sexually harassed, battered and defamed them. Ahead of the 2024 election, Basabe vowed on video that he would resign if it was ever proven that he had harassed, battered and defamed the two. A majority of the seven-member commission is now on record against him: Florida Politics reports that the five of seven called for Basabe to resign immediately rather than wait for the next election. Mount Sinai NICU graduates return for the Preemie Party

Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach hosted its annual Preemie Party, bringing former premature patients and their families back to the hospital where they began. Children who once spent their first weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit reunited with the NICU doctors and nurses who cared for them. The hospital holds the reunion each year, which makes it one of the few standing occasions when the families who passed through the unit see that staff again under happier circumstances. (WSVN)
