Early voting runs Aug. 3-16 at two Miami Beach sites
Two locations, four different hour blocks, and a drop box that only works while voting is open.
Early voting for the August 18, 2026 primary election runs August 3 through August 16 at two locations: Miami Beach City Hall, 1700 Convention Center Drive, in the first-floor conference room, and the North Shore Branch Library, 7501 Collins Avenue. Hours vary by date, so check the block before you go: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from August 3 through August 7; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 8 and 9; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from August 10 through August 14; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 15 and 16. A staffed secure vote-by-mail drop box will be available at each early-voting location during voting hours, which means a ballot drop-off has to happen inside those same windows. Three citations before a tow, with safety exceptions intact
Miami Beach's End Resident Tows rules are now in effect. For most non-safety violations, registered residents can receive up to three parking citations per calendar quarter, each with a 15-minute courtesy text warning, before a fourth violation can lead to towing — citations still issue, the tow does not. Immediate towing remains for hazards: blocked hydrants, disabled spaces, sidewalks, driveways, bike lanes, emergency access areas and freight loading zones. Residents already registered for permits or discounts are enrolled automatically but must keep their mobile number and vehicle information current. 150 spaces now open at 260 67th Street, 24 hours
150 public parking spaces are now open at 260 67th Street in North Beach, part of 300 spaces planned near the future Deauville Hotel complex. The garage runs 24 hours and takes electronic payment only, so there is no cash option at the gate. The listed rate is $1 per hour for residents and $2 per hour for nonresidents. Zone 26 residents can use the garage overnight on a first-come, first-served basis, which means availability is not reserved or guaranteed on any given night. (City of Miami Beach)
South of Fifth gets a one-year Quiet Zone pilot
South of Fifth is now under a one-year Quiet Zone pilot aimed at late-evening and overnight vehicle noise — engine revving, modified exhaust systems and amplified sound. The city has installed yellow Quiet Zone signs warning motorists that fines may be issued; the signs are notice, not enforcement, and they do not issue anything on their own. Enforcement runs through Miami Beach police, who will apply existing laws and ordinances during regular evening duties under Operation Quiet Streets. The city says it will evaluate the pilot before deciding whether to expand it, so nothing beyond South of Fifth is settled. (City of Miami Beach)
Debbie Tackett named Planning Director
The City of Miami Beach has named Debbie Tackett Planning Director, replacing Thomas Mooney following his retirement. Tackett has more than 20 years of experience with the city, and the City Commission accepted the appointment unanimously. The department has 27 staff members and reviews development proposals for compliance with land-use rules. (City of Miami Beach)
Taquiza's North Beach location closes after July 31
Miami New Times reported that Taquiza will close its North Beach restaurant at the Broadmore Miami Beach after service on Friday, July 31, 2026, with the Ocean Terrace redevelopment moving forward. The restaurant has operated at the hotel since 2018. Per Miami New Times, the company says it is preparing a Little River location at 8246 NE Second Avenue — a space that has already served as its commissary kitchen and headquarters for more than three years. Hispanic Heritage Month nominations close Aug. 17
Nominations for the city's 2026 Hispanic Heritage Month Awards are open until 5 p.m. Monday, August 17. The awards recognize people who live or work in Miami Beach and businesses with a local connection, and the city lists both individual and business categories. Nominations are submitted using the city's form, by email or by mail. Honorees will be recognized at an October ceremony; the city has not listed a specific ceremony date. (City of Miami Beach)
$13M Marine Patrol facility breaks ground at Maurice Gibb
The city has broken ground on a $13 million Marine Patrol facility at Maurice Gibb Memorial Park. The three-story, 10,924-square-foot building will replace an existing 2,500-square-foot facility and will house both police and fire-rescue marine units. Funding comes partly from the city's 2018 General Obligation Bond, and Lunacon is the builder. Completion is scheduled for summer 2027, a target date rather than a completed milestone.
